How to play 13-card rummy
New to the game or need a refresher? Here is how to play classic Indian rummy in plain English. The goal is simple: arrange your 13 cards into valid sequences and sets, then declare.

The objective
Turn your 13 cards into valid sequences and sets. You need at least two sequences, and one must be a pure sequence with no joker.

Sequences and Sets
A sequence is three or more cards of the same suit in order. A set is three or four cards of the same rank in different suits.

Jokers help
Printed and wild jokers stand in for missing cards to complete sets and impure sequences, but never your one required pure sequence.
A turn, step by step

Draw a card from the closed deck or the open discard pile to improve your hand.

Form your groups. Arrange cards into sequences and sets, including at least one pure sequence.

Discard a card to the open pile to end your turn, keeping 13 cards in hand.

Declare to win once all 13 cards form valid sequences and sets.
